What's up guys, welcome back to Views. Guess who's back? My co-host back again.
Jason0:14Moment view
Jay Nash is back.
David0:15Moment view
How did you feel? Did you feel like you were sitting in like the cuck's chair listening to the podcast Christmas night?
Jason0:23Moment view
Yeah, I enjoyed it quite, quite a bit.
David0:24Moment view
It was like someone was hooking up with your wife right in front of you.
Jason0:28Moment view
I enjoyed it quite a bit. And I was like, he's going right to high school. I know it. Y'all be on standby.
David0:34Moment view
He has nothing else to talk about.
Jason0:37Moment view
But I mean, Al, were you jealous when he and I became friends?
David0:40Moment view
Dude, I was really excited because I was like, it's so funny because I know Taylor and Alex really well. Obviously, I've known each of them for over 7 years. Alex, whatever, 13. And when we started doing the pod, I'm like, I can't wait to ask him about high school. Like, I haven't asked him before, but there's something about the pod where I'm like, he probably has something new that I haven't heard. And my favorite—
Jason1:03Moment view
he did—
David1:03Moment view
my favorite game that I'll play with, like, Alex is like, who can say a name that like rocks the person's brain the hardest? So like, so like, I'll be like, Brittany Cozza from like from high school. You did it. And then, yeah, then we'll be like, okay, that's a good one. That's a really good—
Jason1:22Moment view
you do that with me with Vine. With Vine, you'll pull out an old Vine name and I'll be like, oh, Andrew Marbach.
David1:27Moment view
Yeah, I was just going to say Andrew Marbach again. Yeah, Andrew Marbach is a good one. If you're listening. Yeah, but throw a Vine name out for me, maybe even the listeners.
Jason1:35Moment view
Uh, like Jerry Perp Drake.
David1:38Moment view
Wow, okay, that's— that's your— you're teetering on like super mainstream.
Jason1:42Moment view
Yeah, he's pretty mainstream. I have a great Jerry Perp Drake story.
David1:45Moment view
What? I feel like you've said this before.
Jason1:47Moment view
Have I?
David1:47Moment view
What happened?
Jason1:48Moment view
We went to Ford. We all got hired at Vine to go to Ford.
David1:51Moment view
You all got hard?
Jason1:52Moment view
Yeah, we all got hired to get hard. We all sat around, um, and we wanted to see who had the biggest boner. But no, we all got hired to go to Ford and go to the car show in Detroit. And we all were making Vines and we all did our job. And then at the end of the day, there was like still time before the flight. So they were like, we're going to take you over to Ford. And then the people at Ford like treated us like kids. They were like, okay, now you have to like listen to us. And, and Jerry Burbank was like, I don't need to listen to this. He's like, I already, I already did my work.
David2:24Moment view
That's really funny.
Jason2:25Moment view
That's so funny. And so the guy from Ford is like, yeah, so basically we take fiber optics and we do regenerative braking and blah, blah, blah, blah. And Jerry just turns his— he just turns his chair and he just faces the other way.
David2:37Moment view
That's really funny.
Jason2:38Moment view
He's like, hello, hello, you have to listen to this. You have to listen. We have you here. And it was like, no, he doesn't, dude. We're done.
David2:46Moment view
That's really funny.
Jason2:48Moment view
It was really funny.
David2:49Moment view
Why that's like double, triple, quadruple funny in my opinion is because Vine was the first taste of like celebrity influencers. Yes. Like, YouTube wasn't— YouTube was so niche where they, like, you weren't like— how do I explain it?
Jason3:09Moment view
It's just its own world, and it wasn't necessarily everybody watched YouTube.
David3:13Moment view
YouTube also didn't come with egos, I feel like, right? Yeah. Like, YouTube was like, it was like so niche where like the people on there were still— they were— everyone on YouTube was kind of like I'm at home making a video. But like Vine was like, everyone blew up so quickly. We're like, yeah, you had like a Jerry who was almost the same attitude of a rapper.
Jason3:36Moment view
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
David3:36Moment view
Right? Like it was like he would maybe buy himself something really nice or like he'd flex the chain. Like there were Viners that would like flex a chain. Not Jerry specifically, that would flex a chain or flex a car. But, and that wasn't a thing with YouTubers, I feel like yet. So like Viners were the first ones to do it.
Jason3:54Moment view
Yeah.
David3:54Moment view
Which is really interesting. Jerry turning his chair is like the— like, no YouTuber would do that at the time. That is only like— that is only, uh, I just blew up about a year ago and I'm on top of the world right now, and you go fuck yourself because you already paid me.
Jason4:11Moment view
Yeah.
David4:11Moment view
Wow, that's really fun. How much were they paying you for that brand deal?
Jason4:14Moment view
I think I made like $10,000.
David4:16Moment view
Really?
Jason4:16Moment view
Yeah, to go there and like hang out at the Ford Auto Show.
David4:21Moment view
Do you remember when King Bach got that Jimmy John's deal?
Jason4:24Moment view
I remember hearing it was $100 grand.
David4:26Moment view
Yeah, because all of Vine was like— everybody was just like fucking— yeah, everybody's like, have you seen this Jimmy John's deal? Have you seen this Jimmy John's deal? It was a big, big fucking deal.
Jason4:36Moment view
Yeah, Batch was the shit. I mean, he still is, but yeah, no, but that was like—
David4:40Moment view
that was the biggest Vine deal at the time, dude. Those top guys on Vine were making so much— Logan— were making so much money.
Jason4:47Moment view
Yeah, who else? Logan, Batch, Marcus Johns made a lot.
David4:51Moment view
Marcus Johns, Lily Ponds. My favorite—
Jason4:54Moment view
oh, Lele Pons.
David4:54Moment view
Yeah, my favorite story with Lele Pons is me and Alex prank called her because we found her number from like a hacker once, and Lele picked up. I thought it was so cool. So rude of me, but that is what happened. Uh, Marcus Johns. Marcus Johns was the first Viner to hit a million followers. He was, which is such a big deal. Yeah, yeah. And he came over to play pickleball with me like a couple months ago.
Jason5:15Moment view
I saw him. Yeah, I talked to him.
David5:16Moment view
Really? That's a really crazy guy to see because it's that— and that was like the first time I've met him. Yeah, you know how crazy that is? Like, I idolized this guy. I was— I had 5,000 followers on Vine.
Jason5:27Moment view
Yeah.
David5:27Moment view
And he was hitting like 750,000, which was like way ahead of the pack. Yeah, actually, no, he was probably already at a million. And like, I idolized this guy so much. Like, I was like, this is the king of Vine, this is the king of Vine. And, and, and then I moved out because of Vine, and I didn't meet him for fucking 12 You've never met him? No.
Jason5:50Moment view
Oh, he used to come over my house and play with my kids.
David5:53Moment view
Yeah, because you were in the popular Vine group.
Jason5:55Moment view
Yes.
David5:55Moment view
You were like the B-list of the A-list, right?
Jason6:01Moment view
Yes, the B-list of the A-list.
David6:02Moment view
That's where you were. You were probably like— yeah, that's funny. You ran with the coolest people on Vine.
Jason6:08Moment view
I have the funniest video of— we did a whole day, me, Paige Kennedy, DeStorm, King Bach. They were all over at Marnie's house, like my ex-wife's house, which was a nice house, you know. And I used to have the funniest, like, interaction of Marnie coming home from work and all of them leaving at the same time, and Marnie being like, oh, hey, hi, um, okay, hi. And they're like, okay, see you later, Marnie. Okay, see you later. It's so fucking funny.
David6:30Moment view
That's really fun. Yeah. What your wife was— what did your wife think about Vine?
Jason6:35Moment view
She was just like, oh my God.
David6:37Moment view
Yeah. Until when? Like, what was the moment where she was like, wait, you just made $10,000 at the Ford convention?
Jason6:43Moment view
Yeah. I don't think she ever understood it. I think when I told her that I was making money, the first one was to go to a Hangover thing in Vegas. And I was like, yeah, it's like, it's like, you know, $7,000. And she was just like, you're lying. Like, no one's— no, no one's going to pay you that. Wow. No one.
David7:00Moment view
I'm so grateful that we were there at the beginning of like social media. I'm so, so thankful for it. Like, yeah, like I— this wasn't too long ago, but like I would get offended when people would say that I'm going to get content somewhere. Like, I hated that word. I'm like, I'm not getting fucking content. Like, I'm going to live my life and also filming it. Like, I, I, and I truly believe this to this day.
Jason7:25Moment view
Yeah.
David7:26Moment view
And like, there was no differentiating for me, like, like the joy I had of real life and making videos. There is, there's no moment that like felt like begrudging, like I was like going into 9 to 5. So when someone said it was 100% work, right? It was 100% work, right? But like, it was such passion work where like when someone called it content and I was going to get content, I was like offended. And now that's the phrase that like influencers use about themselves. They're like, they'll be like, first I woke up and then I got— I went to go shoot some content with friends, right? And I'm like, oh, I don't know why, but it like irks me now.
Jason8:04Moment view
What do you think of— what do you think of when you see like a —like a mainstream celebrity, like, grinding it out now on socials?
David8:12Moment view
Um, it just depends. Like, there's like mainstream celebrities that do it really well. Like, one of my favorites is Stanley Tucci. Oh yeah, have you seen him do it? No. Oh, he like does like cooking videos.
Jason8:23Moment view
Well, he has like a big show on CNN, right? He took—
David8:26Moment view
that's the bald guy, right?
Jason8:26Moment view
Yeah, he took Bourdain's spot basically.
David8:28Moment view
Oh great, so he does the exact same thing on TikTok and he's cooking. Yeah.
Jason8:33Moment view
Are they cutdowns of the show or like new TikToks?
David8:35Moment view
No, no, no. It's just straight up off his phone. And so you're in his kitchen and he's like talking really slow and it's just like really captivating.
Jason8:43Moment view
And like when you see something on socials and it's like shot really well, don't you prefer it shot on the phone?
David8:50Moment view
I think it depends. It's case by case. Right. So I just did a brand deal with Microsoft. Yes.
Jason8:55Moment view
Perfect example.
David8:56Moment view
And they wanted to do it on like these nice cameras. And I'm like, I don't think I work on nice cameras. Right. Like, I like— Alex Earle works on nice cameras. Uh-huh. Although she has—
Jason9:08Moment view
she has like a lo-fi podcast.
David9:10Moment view
No, she has lo-fi, but I think she's so pretty and she's so, like, captivating to look at where I think it's nice to see her. It's nice to see her, like, sharpened, elevated. Yeah. But for me, I don't think people like— I don't think people look at me and they're like, I want to see David on the highest level of platform and like, I don't want to see him in the highest quality. Like, I think people like the more like, we're just hanging out, this is shot on the cell phone vibe with me. So I don't think— I think Alex blew up so quickly. Yeah. Where like, people love to see the progression of her. Yeah. So they get excited to see the high quality stuff with her, if that makes sense. Yeah. Like me, I think I've been doing this for way too long where people are like, yeah, like, okay, I've seen him do this high quality stuff, but I just wanna see him do like this. Like, I don't know.
Jason10:03Moment view
That's just do his thing.
David10:04Moment view
That's the way I perceive it. I don't know. I think it applies to like different people. And then I also, then what you say about celebrities doing social media, it's like, it's definitely like case by case. Like there's like, you ever see like press tours and like you'll see like Chris Pratt with like two of his co-stars, like making a, even just making a phone vertical video being like, 'Go see the movie.' Yeah, it's going to be like— and they make some kind of a joke. Yeah, like, that's like really cheesy. But also, like, they have to do so much press. Yeah. We're like, they don't give a fuck. Like, they're like, like, you know, like they don't give a fuck to make a TikTok video. And I don't blame them.
Jason10:40Moment view
What about when you get asked to jump in a TikTok that you don't want to be in?
David10:46Moment view
Uh, it depends. Is it a random person or is it you guys? If it's you guys, I don't want to do it. No, no. So John's mom has this TikTok account. Really? John's mom, like Filipino mom, has this incredible TikTok account. Really? Fuck, I don't even want to talk about it because like I want to randomly show up on it, right? But like she does these like incredible— she's so good at it. Like she's like genuinely having fun. Wow. It's like, you know, like with like, like you see a TikTok from a different country and it's just like a person, like the phone quality is a little different so you could tell it's not like, sure, like the most sharpened. And it's like, and it's just someone just having genuine joy making videos. That's what John's mom is.
Jason11:28Moment view
What make videos about?
David11:29Moment view
It's like, so, so one is like, it's all songs. Oh, so the latest one I saw is her dancing to Taylor Swift's "Sophia." Really? You know that song? Yeah. It's incredible. It's just her dancing and like, wow, it's like a very like nice, like mom dance. And like, I really want to be in that. I really want to be in a TikTok with her. I don't want her to tag me or anything. I just want to be in it. I don't want people to know how I have any correlation to John's mom. So that's something I'm excited to do when we go to the Philippines. That's fun. That's gonna be on the top of my list.
Jason12:01Moment view
Oh, I watched, um, as a favor to you, I went and I watched all the Avengers trailers this morning. What? Yeah, just so I could be like—
David12:09Moment view
What do you mean as a favor?
Jason12:11Moment view
I thought I should go and look what you're so excited about.
David12:13Moment view
But haven't you seen the movies?
Jason12:15Moment view
Well, I saw— I watched the Thor trailer. Does Spider-Man have his own movie coming out?
David12:19Moment view
What are you doing? Oh, the new ones. Yeah. Oh. So what's interesting, did you see what they— so, okay, okay, this is interesting what happened with the trailers. So Disney was taking down the trailers because it was leaked. Some guy in the movie theater went in and recorded the trailer off the screen because like obviously they send in the trailers a week before it comes out. So this guy posted it on TikTok. So I saw it leaked and like I saw, you know, scene by scene how it was. I saw the whole thing. And then obviously if you post that on YouTube Yeah, it gets taken down. So what someone did is they recreated the exact trailer, but with AI to the point where it was almost indistinguishable. But it wasn't Disney-made anymore. It was AI. What?
Jason13:02Moment view
So like, so what I watched this morning is not—
David13:05Moment view
there's a good chance you're the Thor trailer. You probably watched Thor, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Spider-Man, or AI. Doctor Doom, AI. Doctor Doom, you couldn't have watched the Doctor Doom trailer.
Jason13:15Moment view
I watched it.
David13:16Moment view
No, no, that was AI. That was 100% AI. Really? But what was interesting about the Captain America trailer that came out was it was AI, but it was 100% accurate to the real trailer that was leaked. So he recreated scene by scene using AI in 3 hours. It leaked and then 3 hours later it was up. And I remember because I watched it, I clicked, I'm like, oh wow, it's up on YouTube. It looks crystal clear. But things were off. Really? Like you couldn't see the reflection of Captain America in the window, or the way he takes his bike helmet off is backwards rather than it is— he's not putting it on the bike, he's taking it off the bike. And it was all because it was replicated by AI. But it's crazy. There's nothing he could do about it. There's nothing Disney could do about it because it's like, it's like, yeah, it's the idea, but it's not made by them at all. Wow. Yeah.
Jason14:08Moment view
That's how scary— Spider-Man movie coming out. Is that AI? Yeah.
David14:11Moment view
Spider-Man's— well, no, the movie will be real. But yeah, if you're seeing a trailer, How did you see it?
Jason14:15Moment view
I went on YouTube, I typed in Marvel.
David14:18Moment view
Yeah, yeah, no, that's AI. Did you see Thor 2? The, the only Spider-Man trailer that you could see is—
Jason14:23Moment view
what about the David Dobrik Avengers trailer that I watched? Is that real?
David14:26Moment view
No, that's real. That's real.
Jason14:27Moment view
Okay.
David14:28Moment view
Yeah, I'm working on something with Tony, Tony Stark. Oh, I see.
Jason14:30Moment view
Yeah, I see.
David14:32Moment view
Could you imagine?
Jason14:33Moment view
You should make one.
David14:34Moment view
That'd be really sick.
Jason14:36Moment view
Just put it on your channel.
David14:37Moment view
What do you think would upset people like the most? Like, like what collaboration Like, like MrBeast x The Avengers, something that's realistic. Like what? Like what? Like what could you, what would, what would ruin a franchise the best? Did you see that?
Jason14:52Moment view
Avengers do 6/7.
David14:54Moment view
Did you see? Yeah. Okay. No. Well, in Endgame, in Endgame, Thor was playing Fortnite. Oh, wow. Which was crazy. Isn't that crazy? Like to this day, I thought it was one of those things that they were going to swap out after the theaters. Yeah. But like, to this day, you watch Endgame and Thor is playing Fortnite. How fucking crazy is that?
Jason15:17Moment view
Why is that so crazy?
David15:18Moment view
Because Fortnite's a thing that's like baked in reality. Like some, a real human being invented Fortnite not too long ago and they got put into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I think that's kind of fucking insane. Fortnite is like, it's so like, it's not like Pepsi or anything. It's like, Right. It's a fucking video game that's like for like 16, 18, 20-year-olds. I don't know. I think that's so bizarre.
Jason15:42Moment view
Did you go to Avatar? The premiere? Yeah, but did you go and— you were so excited to see Avatar.
David15:48Moment view
Oh yeah, yeah, I went to go see it. How was it? It was great. It was 3 hours and 15 minutes. I have, yeah, I have some— Woo! Yeah, it was good.
Jason15:56Moment view
3 hours and 15 minutes?
David15:58Moment view
Did you go see it?
Jason15:59Moment view
Of those androids, their eyes are too far apart? I don't like the way their eyes are. Really?
David16:05Moment view
No. So far apart. No. And this one had a really hot new avatar. Oh, really? Oh my God. The one that, like, represented the Fire and Ash Colony was so fucking hot. Yeah. Yeah.
Jason16:16Moment view
Nice boobs.
David16:17Moment view
Jay, I'm not a boob guy, first of all. Okay.
Jason16:19Moment view
Nice butt.
David16:20Moment view
Don't objectify the avatars. You just said they're hot. Yeah. She's a beautiful woman. Oh, beautiful woman. Even though she's evil.
Jason16:26Moment view
I saw Superman and I loved it.
David16:30Moment view
Oh, the new one?
Jason16:31Moment view
It's so good.
David16:32Moment view
Yeah, yeah, did you see it?
Jason16:33Moment view
Yeah, yeah, I thought it was crazy good.
David16:35Moment view
Well, you know what's happening is James Gunn's redoing that whole universe. Yeah, so did you know that? No. Okay, do you know who James Gunn is? So everybody— so everybody— Guardians? Yeah, yeah, everybody's being— every, every character is being recast. Well, and that's the first movie of all the— of all the new DC movies.
Jason16:54Moment view
You know what I liked about it? There was like a lot of nuance in it, like He had the Justice Gang, which is like good, but they're also like kind of douchey.
David17:02Moment view
Oh yeah, I did like that.
Jason17:04Moment view
I thought that was so funny.
David17:04Moment view
I did like the Justice— were they called the Justice Gang? Is that what they went by? I think Justice Gang, yeah.
Jason17:09Moment view
Or Justice Gang, and I think that was kind of a joke, like the name kind of sucked.
David17:12Moment view
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then that guy at the end liked the name and he's like, you're in. Yeah.
Jason17:17Moment view
Yeah, no, I really liked it. It was great.
David17:20Moment view
I like that. What'd you do for Christmas, Jay?
Jason17:22Moment view
I went to Boston. I played Quiplash the entire time.
David17:25Moment view
Dude, I played Quiplash too. You did?
Jason17:28Moment view
The Flash is great.
David17:29Moment view
Dude, I know my sister listens to this.
Jason17:30Moment view
Yeah, so how'd she do?
David17:32Moment view
Dude, my siblings aren't good at it.
Jason17:35Moment view
Were you crushing?
David17:37Moment view
I wasn't crushing because I didn't— I don't hang out with them enough where I have things to pull from, right? Like, it's very easy with, with people that you live with because you have, like, incredible amount of inside jokes. Yeah, but with my siblings, like, my brother and my sister kept saying the same thing, and they kept saying, like, They kept saying like, uh, suck my dick, and they would spell dick D-I-H. Yeah. And, and, or they said stuff with dick, and like it was all dick jokes, and I was like, what?
Jason18:09Moment view
Are you trying to get on that? Then you try it when it's your turn.
David18:12Moment view
So I had to start playing it like that. That's really— well, how did your Quiplash game go? Oh, incredible.
Jason18:18Moment view
Wyatt pulled out the ligma. He used ligma as a joke.
David18:23Moment view
For people that don't know, Quiplash is a game you can play on your TV. Everyone in the room connects their phones and basically they give you a prompt. So it's like the stupidest thing to go to jail for. And then, and then everyone has to type in something funny and then anonymously all those things will pop up on the TV and you have to choose what you think is the funniest. Yeah.
Jason18:42Moment view
You're playing on your phone. Yeah. Yeah.
David18:44Moment view
I didn't like what my brother started doing. I was pissing me off. Was like my brother didn't want me to win. Yeah. So my brother purposefully like saw something funny and was like, I'm not picking that. And I think people do do that. I know people do that. I know it's like a regular Quiplash thing. I do that too. Like, I do that like when I'm playing with John, like, and John's in the lead, like, I know, I know which ones are John's, right?
Jason19:07Moment view
Like, obviously they're misspelled.
David19:09Moment view
They're either misspelled or like, you know, it's like a John joke. Like, John would reference this. Yeah. Um, and then, yeah, and then you stop. That's, that's the key of Quiplash is like to win, you have to speak as someone else sometimes, right? Because people selfishly don't want a certain person to win. So you have to like really disguise yourself in the game. That's why it's such a genius thing. Yeah. Um, but how was your—
Jason19:34Moment view
what was your story? Why I gave ligma as an answer? Ligma balls?
David19:37Moment view
Yeah.
Jason19:37Moment view
And so of course my mother's like, ligma? What's, what's ligma? And then he's just fucking dying where he—
David19:42Moment view
That's really funny.
Jason19:43Moment view
He laughed for like 5 minutes.
David19:44Moment view
Did you see it coming? Uh, you know ligma, right?
Jason19:47Moment view
I know what ligma is. Yeah.
David19:48Moment view
Cause he—
Jason19:49Moment view
yeah, I got it.
David19:51Moment view
That's really funny. Yeah. Who won the Quiplash games?
Jason19:54Moment view
My sister-in-law won. I was up 2-0. I won the first 2 games, and then I think they didn't want me to win.
David20:00Moment view
Well, the 3rd round is worth all the points. Yeah. Yeah.
Jason20:03Moment view
Yeah. And then when you get a Quiplash, that's so exciting.
David20:06Moment view
Yeah, when everyone votes for you. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, yeah.
Jason20:08Moment view
I had, um, um, what was it? Uh, the worst, the worst type of assistant. And I had assistant to Jeff Epstein, and that one got me a Quiplash. Really? Yeah.
David20:22Moment view
Dave's like, that's not funny.
Jason20:25Moment view
I could never last a day. I mean, you know, you never know what's going to get you the quip lash.
David20:28Moment view
I put Jeff Epstein in a couple of my answers, like kind of slid them in there, and it didn't play. It didn't play. So I'm shocked that that got you an all hands on deck win. Yeah. Wow.
Jason20:41Moment view
I was playing with older people.
David20:42Moment view
Oh, you really have to know your crowd. Yes, you're right. Older people, Epstein joke probably crushes, right? I think it's like too played out with the younger generation.
Jason20:53Moment view
Yeah, yeah, yeah. They're so heavy Epstein.
David20:55Moment view
I think all you hear is about Epstein, but I think if you're older, the Epstein thing is like less of a joke. It's like, oh, I grew up with these presidents.
Jason21:03Moment view
Joey showed me a meme. I don't know if you've probably seen it. I thought it was the funniest thing I've ever seen. It was like somebody was wishing someone else happy birthday and they wrote, cake and candles, my N-word. Have you seen that?
David21:14Moment view
Wait, wait, wait. Cake and candles, my N-word?
Jason21:16Moment view
It's like a text exchange between two people. Someone writes, someone writes, cake and candles, my N-word. He's just basically wishing them happy birthday. And then the other— and then the person's like, can you just be normal? Can you just say happy birthday? That's what the text exchange says. And then the guy writes back, balloon. You didn't see that? No. Charlie showed it to me and Wyatt was like, oh yeah, I've seen that. That's really— I was like, huh? But it's so hard to like—
David21:45Moment view
it's really funny, like, like how humor, how different humor is. Yeah. Like, even like, like I just hung out with my brother. Yeah. And like a catchphrase he says a lot, like nonstop. You won't even know this. You won't even know this because this is like so deep internet culture. But like, I'm lucky enough where I'm still picking it up, what he's saying. Yeah. But like, I'm shocked that he's using it day to day. He goes, "Fuck!" Have you seen that? Have you seen the thing that's like a— you haven't seen that sound? Like on Instagram?
Jason22:18Moment view
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
David22:20Moment view
How does it go? You probably can do it better. I know. I— "Fuck!" You know what I mean? I know what you're talking about. Yeah, but it's like I've never heard anybody do it good to the point where the second time he said it, I knew what he was saying. The first time I was like, is that a reference to— because it's the sound. It's some guy saying fuck, but there's like a lot of reverb and it's like when something something bad happens, like, yeah, or like it'll pan to somebody and instead of using the iMovie sound, it'll be like, fuck. Yeah. Um, but like, I've never heard like a human say it. And my brother was saying it, I'm like, damn, this is like such a different world. Like, like when it's so funny, like, and every time I see my brother, it's like every couple months, like whatever, for like an occasion, or he'll come by the house and it'll be something new that he's like, that he's like picked up on. And it's very, it's very trendy. Like kids, like kids his age speak to the trends that are happening online. It's very interesting. Like, to me, they're just trends, right? But to him, it's changing his language as time is going, like, is going through. It's really interesting. Yeah.
Jason23:24Moment view
Have you ever seen what a streamer will look like in 20 years?
David23:26Moment view
Ever seen those projections? No.
Jason23:28Moment view
Like, like hunched back and like long fingers and like hook nose.
David23:33Moment view
That's really funny. I've been thinking about— okay, so I've been having this dilemma, and actually the podcast listeners can help me with this. So, and I want to, I want to like change the way I make videos. Have I told you this?
Jason23:47Moment view
Yeah, you've mentioned it.
David23:49Moment view
So like, I really want to like, okay, so I had this idea where like, it's not really an original idea, but I assume like once I do it, it will be original because like I'll put like my own, like my own voice onto it. But like, I want to like make, okay, I want to take like a trip to, to, to like, let's say to Rio de Janeiro. Like, that's like an exciting trip. And like, you know how like I'll have like a brand deal attached to a video. Yeah. And it'll be like, it'll be like someone will be getting a gift. I'll use all the money most likely on a gift. And like I was thinking, like instead of using the money on a gift, like why not use all the money for the production of the video? And that doesn't mean that the videos are going to look like Marvel movies, but that means that I bring 2 camera people with me, which is very expensive to bring to another country. To bring 2 camera people with you, to hire them for work and to house them and to fly them and to feed them, is very expensive, is the equivalent of a car. So like, instead of like getting someone a car, like, why don't I bring Ferris out who could film, and then another filmer to like Brazil and shoot a vlog that's like highbrow and it's like drone shots and it still has like the life of the videos that I have. Like, so it has like the fun music, the fun energy, but it's more like hangy-outy. Like, it's more like— it's like a 25-minute vlog, but it's like shot, you know, it's like you're there for the full adventure.
Jason25:13Moment view
I think a longer video would be really good for you.
David25:15Moment view
And I don't know, I just think it's like time to like do some kind of a different video.
Jason25:20Moment view
I think so too.
David25:21Moment view
And it's kind of like— it's kind of exhausting, the videos we shoot. Like, I like— I'm editing this video that we just shot, right, that I'm posting on the first. I mean, it's just like your typical vlog and I'm like cutting things out of it that I'm like, ah, like this is like, this isn't that funny, but it's kind of cool to like see like, like the jokes that I feel like a lot of times are really funny in vlogs are the ones that aren't like, like, okay, so like right now when I edit a vlog, I only put in the moments I laugh at that I genuinely find so funny.
Jason25:52Moment view
The very, very best cream of the crop jokes you put in. Yeah. And you throw out a lot of—
David25:55Moment view
Best jokes for us, not like best jokes for, you know, like best jokes that happened that week. Yeah. So like, I only put in the things that I'm laughing at, hence why you always hear me laughing at the end of things. But I think like you say, you especially say so many funny things, right? That like is just so normal to me because I'm with you. But it's like, but it's so, it's like, so I don't laugh at it per se, but I know it's funny. Sure. And like, I think it would, I think it like I think like the softer jokes would make the harder jokes hit better too. So like, I think it's kind of like, it's kind of interesting. Like, I like hanging out with you guys in reality. Right. What I'm trying to say. Right. So like, why don't I depict that reality to the best of my abilities and like show everything? Yeah.
Jason26:46Moment view
Yeah.
David26:47Moment view
So show like a moment we're arguing. Nothing funny happens. Right. We're arguing, we go to the next scene, and then maybe you say like a little small dig at Natalie. No one laughs, but it just continues to the next thing. Now we're boarding the plane.
Jason27:00Moment view
I think that's a really good idea. I mean, I, I, I'm begging you to do more, to show more.
David27:05Moment view
And I also don't want to hold the camera. I want to like— I kind of like the idea of having two camera guys. And like, and why I say it's not original, it's because it's going to— it's going to be shot like a Nelk video would be, or like any livestreamer's video or any YouTuber's video. But I'm going to— it's going to be mine. So it's going to feel like me, but it's going to be like— I just, I don't know. And I don't know that necessarily the twist I'm going to put on it because I still want to make it like very much a David video. But I just like the concept. Like, I want, I want a high-def video. I want something shot so clean, so clear. And I think where we're at today and like the whole, like, the whole consuming things. I think people like longer things.
Jason27:51Moment view
That was Charlie's criticism of your videos. Really? Yeah, she was like, why is it so short? She's like, people just want to hang out with David. They just want to see what you guys are up to.
David28:00Moment view
Yeah, I think the short stuff worked too when I was doing 3 a week. Uh-huh. And it's like, yeah, and like I was saying back, it's too much. It's so much pressure to like to try to get to that, the funniest joke in the funniest place. Like, it's like, we'll be like, we'll be, um, let's say we'll be at a castle in Hungary and it looks— everything looks really cool. And then we'll just sit outside the castle and we'll be like, how can we make something outside of the castle funny? When like, it shouldn't be like that. It should just be like, let's go into the castle. And like anything that happens outside of the castle, we— you— I don't know, it should just be like more— there's so much pressure in like making these videos where like, let's make— let's get a joke. Yeah, where I— where everything we naturally do is just funny because that's just how we interact. But like, I hold like certain jokes such a standard that I don't want to anymore.
Jason28:55Moment view
I like the Ice Hotel. We couldn't come up with a joke and everyone's trying.
David28:58Moment view
Yeah, yeah, that's a good example. We went to the Ice Hotel, nothing funny happened. But like, we should just walk through the Ice Hotel and like the lamest comment should have made it in, and it should have just been like— it should just be like beats. I don't know. So like, I want to—
Jason29:10Moment view
I don't know, maybe it's up to you though. That's up to you. You gotta— you have to let, let more out there. Yeah.
David29:16Moment view
I also think I want to do like a video a month. Yeah. Where like, I don't want to do it every 2 weeks, but like, I want to do like, you know, where we go to a video where we go to fucking— yeah, where we go to Rio. It's shot really nicely.
Jason29:33Moment view
And I wonder if you could package 12 videos this year in a certain way, like whatever it is, it's like one country each video.
David29:40Moment view
Well, that's what I was— my— that was my idea of going to a— of— this was— I don't know if I said on the pod, I think I did— is living in a different country for 30 days.
Jason29:50Moment view
Oh yeah, yeah.
David29:51Moment view
And making 12 videos this year. But it's— that's such an exhausting idea.
Jason29:56Moment view
Well, maybe, maybe, maybe it's just 7 days. In a country for 12 times, and then you have 3 weeks, you're back here editing, and yeah, of the month. I think that would be doable.
David30:07Moment view
I think what's gonna happen is I think January I'm gonna post a video on the 1st. I think maybe I'll post another vlog 2 weeks after that. Maybe in February I'll post another vlog, or I'll— or yeah, yeah, or I'll post one more vlog, and then February we have a plan to go to Brazil because we really want to go with our 2 friends who are from Brazil. Yeah.
Jason30:28Moment view
And I think that's going to happen there. Is that like Carnival or anything like that?
David30:31Moment view
No, I'm trying to go after Carnival.
Jason30:33Moment view
Is Carnival bad? It's just like— I mean, is it too busy? So busy.
David30:37Moment view
Yeah. I don't like being in countries when people from other countries are going there. I don't know why. I just like think it ruins the country for me. Yeah. Yeah. Like, it's like I fucking hate Fashion Weeks in Paris. Yeah. Because all of L.A. and New York is in Paris and I'm seeing the same exact people and all of the locals are scared to go out because it's— everything's overpriced. And it's like, it's just like hell. It's hell to get around, everything is 10 times the price.
Jason31:02Moment view
You got the real Sweden.
David31:04Moment view
Yes, I got the real Sweden.
Jason31:05Moment view
There was nobody there.
David31:06Moment view
There was nobody in Sweden, not even the locals.
Jason31:08Moment view
Yeah, 4 hours of daylight.
David31:10Moment view
Yeah, locals are gone. So yeah, so yeah, I think, I think in February maybe I'll take like a month to make a video. It'll be, it'll be less funny, it'll be longer. Yeah, but it'll be more like hanging out. I don't know, and I'm gonna post it once, and if people hate it if people are like, hey, maybe you're onto something, then I'll do it again. I don't think I'll be able to do it every month, but I think I'll plan one like every 3 months. Right. Or maybe I'll get a specific sponsor that'll be just associated with those videos. So like, I'll be like, okay, these are the Microsoft videos, which feels kind of right. It's like Microsoft, highbrow, like whatever it is, like it'll be like a specific sponsor tied to these highbrow videos. That could be very interesting. I don't know.
Jason31:51Moment view
That'd be fun. I think it is time for you to do something like that.
David31:54Moment view
Yeah, I just like, and I just, I really, really, I hate holding the vlog camera in my hand. You do? Yes, because it's just like, it doesn't, I just don't feel like I get to like do fun, like it doesn't, it's not like, it feels very much like, it used to be this like cute and fun thing, but I think like influencing has like, it's just got, everyone's doing it. So like, I want to be in the videos more where I could shed myself of actually holding Well, didn't you try to do that when you went around the world?
Jason32:26Moment view
You had people filming you more. So you know what that's like, right?
David32:30Moment view
When we did—
Jason32:31Moment view
When you did the Seven Wonders video, it felt like that video had a lot more moments where you were training, you were getting in shape, you were with Ilya. Yeah.
David32:41Moment view
So yeah, I do. I think— so I think a good example of what my vlog would feel like would be what that doc was like on Zila. Yeah, but that doc was built to be a little bit more— I mean, I use this word lightly— educational.
Jason32:57Moment view
Yes.
David32:58Moment view
For the purpose of like working out. Yes. But mine wouldn't be any of that. Like mine, there wouldn't be any messaging behind it. Like I wouldn't be trying to get across like be healthier or whatever. So it'd be in the style of the docs where it's like, you know, you got your fun shots, but also, I don't know, just like a more mature version of whatever.
Jason33:16Moment view
Would you do a storyline?
David33:19Moment view
No, I'm not too good at that. Everyone always asks me, especially like people that know me, are always like, why don't you make a movie? Why don't you make a movie? And like, I just like don't know how. 'Cause a lot of like 80% of the ideas I have for vlogs. Yeah. So, okay, so this is the only reason I came up with the Seven Wonders idea. Let me play it. So there was a song I heard, Crazy on You by Dreamboat Annie.
Jason33:45Moment view
Oh, I remember this. But you didn't end up doing it. Exactly. I thought this was the best idea.
David33:51Moment view
Yeah, so I was like, I want to go see— I heard this song and there was 7 beats in it. And I was like, what can I do with 7 beats? Because I really wanted to edit to this song. And I was like, okay, 7 wonders. So I had this idea the entire time. And here you're about to hear it. Hold on. It's coming. And I wanted every beat to be the shot of a new wonder. So this is me telling Ilya. Let's go see the Seven Wonders. And he's like, what, are you crazy? That's so much. We'll never be able to do it. I'm like, dude, come on. It'll be so much fun. I don't know, Dave. I don't know if I could do it. I have work. I have to pay rent. Boom. That's one wonder. And then two. Two.
Jason34:32Moment view
Three.
David34:32Moment view
And then this goes. And then here it starts music. And now you're seeing all the wonders, right? So I was like so excited about that, and I was like, fuck yeah, like I'm gonna do the 7 beats and then montage of the wonders. And then I started putting it together and I was like, this doesn't work at all for some reason. Why? It just— it was breathing too— it— oh, and it was my fault it didn't work because the shots itself weren't majestic enough to like fill to match the music. It just wasn't connecting for some reason. Like, the shot of the wonder, you couldn't see the wonder for too long. These beats were too far apart where it wasn't, it wasn't moving quick enough. So, so like, so I had to scrap the whole— that part of it, and I did instead, I did, uh, Holiday by Green Day for that montage, and because that moves so much quicker. And now I scrapped the whole idea of showing the Seven Wonders at once, and now I put together The wonder shots weren't interesting enough.
Jason35:39Moment view
But I remember when you were editing it, you were like, I don't care about the wonders. Exactly.
David35:43Moment view
Yeah, because I— why? Because, because I was— because, because the shots I got at the wonders weren't interesting enough. Hence what— why I'm going back to what I was saying before is why I could never make a movie is because I had this whole idea in my head, shot it, executed it very poorly, and then had to pivot in the edit. And like, I don't think you can do that so much when you're spending millions of dollars on production. You need a storyboard. Yeah. And I'm really scared that I'm absolutely god-awful at storyboarding because 75% of the times I have an idea in my head about something, it changes in the edit. And I don't know, maybe that's—
Jason36:20Moment view
maybe you don't storyboard, huh? Maybe you should storyboard.
David36:23Moment view
But I can't because that's just not how I think. Like, I like— that's just like, I just, I don't have like— I can't conceptualize.
Jason36:29Moment view
You're more documentarian. You're more out there grabbing.
David36:33Moment view
Like, I guess I'm more guerrilla style when it comes to like— I, like, I think, I think it's made— I think the shots, I think you could get whatever you want, and I think the video is made in the edit 100% of the time. I don't, I don't care who's at— I don't care who's shooting it. Like, I think the video is made in the edit. That is where your voice is like produced, in the edit.
Jason36:52Moment view
So I think people should know that you still edit on iMovie. I think that's pretty inspiring. Yeah, it's like, because to me it's like, oh yeah, it's an iMovie and he does The videos are that good? That means anybody could like— you could go to the Mac Store and make a video.
David37:07Moment view
Yeah, I think just like a good— I don't know, when I hear a song, I don't know—
Jason37:12Moment view
Song does a lot of the lifting, doesn't it?
David37:14Moment view
So much of the lifting. So much of the lifting. And you can have some of the dumbest moments, and then you put in a fucking kick-ass song. It's really cheating, genuinely. There is a genius artist on the other end that pulled from the heavens to create this beautiful song, and here I am being able to use it in my YouTube video. I think it's an honor.
Jason37:33Moment view
It goes both ways. What about the guy whose song you blew up? What was it? Mika?
David37:40Moment view
No, no, not Mika. I've never talked to Mika, which is so sad. It's my intro song.
Jason37:44Moment view
Wait, who made your intro song?
David37:46Moment view
I wonder if people know this. So yeah, this artist— no, no, he was big. Mika's big. Oh, really? Yeah. You're thinking of "Show me what I'm looking for." No, no, no.
Jason37:57Moment view
I'm thinking of Mika.
David37:58Moment view
I didn't know Mika was big. Oh, you're not thinking of Carolina Lyre?
Jason38:00Moment view
No, I know Carolina Lyre, yeah. Mika.
David38:01Moment view
I've— see, I've yet to use this song yet and I really want to. But it's okay. So this is it. Mika, you've definitely— everyone has heard Mika. But what you don't know is this part. So cool. Oh, that's good. So cool. And the only thing that that song gives me is just like either a comeback vlog or like a vlog that's ending everything. And like, you like, you go into some sort of like cheesy dance sequence or like something. I've always wanted to let that intro song play out and go into something.
Jason38:46Moment view
Oh, that'd be sick.
David38:47Moment view
It'd be so sick. I just can't come up with what it is.
Jason38:49Moment view
Someone will have to die.
David38:50Moment view
And I've had that.
Jason38:51Moment view
I'd have to, I'd have to die.
David38:52Moment view
No, no, this is not— and then this is not scream death.
Jason38:55Moment view
Well, but that would bring everybody together.
David38:57Moment view
Let me see. Let me see if I can imagine you dying with this. Hold on. Yes, I can. No. Fuck. No, Jay. Fuck.
Jason39:07Moment view
I can see it.
David39:12Moment view
No, I'd have to die.
Jason39:14Moment view
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
David39:17Moment view
So I think I'd have to die for that. Because you're. You dying would be sad, You think? I think so. Yeah, I don't, I don't think your death would be like, uh, I don't know, for some reason your death would be sad. Yeah, and not for some reason, like obviously deaths are sad, but because I never, I never reached my full potential. No, just because you're older. So like, you're like, like if I died, it's way sadder when a young person dies. No, not me. If I died, it'd be like, that was really fun, right? Like you'd be like, we had a good time. Like, if you died, it'd be like, that poor soul. And I died like— I, like, I can totally die and like everything's totally good. Like, don't be sad. Like, it's like I had like the fucking— I have a pickleball court I'm staring at right now. I record this podcast, I'm in my pajamas, I have my eye mask here that I got from the guest compound because I stayed at the Coachella guest comp. Like, I've had a very fulfilling life.
Jason40:09Moment view
I've been to the guest compound at Coachella. I've done well.
David40:13Moment view
No, like, I'm just like, I don't know. I don't think like that. I've been there too. Huh? I've been there too. So maybe you can die too. Maybe I'm completely wrong.
Jason40:21Moment view
I was on the plane coming back, which you bought me a business class seat, or I don't know if it was business or first class. I don't know what it was. It was incredible.
David40:29Moment view
That was business.
Jason40:30Moment view
It was business. It was incredible. My own pod. First pod. Woman comes up to me, stewardess comes up to me. She goes, the wife would like to sit next to her husband. Do you mind switching? And I was like, yeah, okay, okay. So I did it and I switched. And then I thought, well, maybe he didn't want her there, but whatever.
David40:50Moment view
Oh, that's really funny.
Jason40:51Moment view
So then I'm flying back JetBlue last night in economy and I'm trying to get— I have Charlie on the window, me in the middle.
David40:57Moment view
Wait, what do you mean? Oh, when you flew back from your parents' house?
Jason41:00Moment view
From Boston, yeah. And Wyatt is on the window on the other side and Wyatt's like, can we sit together? And I was like, yeah, yeah, no worries. I'll get the guy to switch. And Wyatt was like, how? And I'm like, don't worry. I'm like, I got this. I'm like, you just walk up, you just be like, hey, my son's over there. Yeah, you want to take the window? We just all want to sit together. He's like, that's how you're going to ask? I'm like, yes, I'm gonna ask. Like, don't worry about it, I'll take care of it. Guy gets there and I go, hey, my son's over there, would you mind just switching? You can get— you want the window? Like that. The guy goes, no. Wow. And I thought my karma from the other flight would transfer over to JetBlue, but it didn't.
David41:35Moment view
Dude, fucked up. You have to have— you have to have seen some shit to say no to somebody switching.
Jason41:40Moment view
Well, I asked him, I go, do you pee a lot? And he goes, yeah, I guess I just had kidney stones.
David41:44Moment view
Oh, wait, wait, sorry, he was in the aisle?
Jason41:46Moment view
Yeah, he was in the aisle.
David41:47Moment view
And you want him to go window?
Jason41:48Moment view
I want him to go window. Oh, that's—
David41:49Moment view
sorry, I'm sorry, that's big.
Jason41:51Moment view
That's a big switch? I think window's better than aisle. Jay, no.
David41:55Moment view
Why? Jay, you think window, but people think aisle's better than window.
Jason41:59Moment view
Jay, it's very— They do? Yes, Jay.
David42:01Moment view
That's like a, that's like a known thing. Like, you either want aisle or window. Ilya only sits aisle. I only sit window. Really? Yeah, it's like a 50-50 thing. 100%. Yeah. And people are very passionate about the direction they're in. So you never ask an aisle person to go to window. That's really madness. I think that's madness. 100%. 100%. And you were in economy? Yeah. That's like a triple doozy. Like, going to window in economy where there's 3 seats now. I don't— I would never even do that in business class where there's two seats. All right, guys, I think that's all the time we have for today's pod. Um, let me know what you think about my idea for different kinds of videos. And, um, yeah, leave a comment, give us some direction, and I'm gonna see you for the next one. The next— the next podcast will be— when is the next pod? Thursday. Oh, it'll be— it'll be on— oh my God, see you next year!
Jason42:51Moment view
Whoa, whoa, whoa, really? Right? Hold on, let me see. Yeah, wait, wow, wow, such a confusing time of year.
David42:57Moment view
God, I gotta edit my vlog too. That's— oh my God, the first— the next vlog—
Jason43:01Moment view
the first is Thursday the 1st.
David43:02Moment view
This is the last year of 20— or the last video, our last pod of the year, dude. Um, guys, send us your New Year's resolutions because I want to talk New Year's resolutions next pod. I'm very interested to hear them all. All right, see you guys.
